Are You Expendable?

It’s a question that needs to be asked every day. Tom Brady is such a person that asks this about himself. The man is the GOAT (greatest of all time). Not to my liking, I’m a Bronco fan. But it’s simply a fact. I mentioned a while back how I watched a video series on Facebook about him (Tom vs Time).  It was amazing, to say the least. His dedication to his craft unprecedented. He also knows that even a five-time Super Bowl champ is expendable. Why?  Because that’s how he got his job from Drew Bledsoe when he went down. Since that day he has never given a person a stiff of a chance to take it back. It’s a good reminder

Slam Dunk

Everybody loves slam dunks in life or business. Usually, because it means something big happened like a breakthrough, a score or a big check. What happens though when something tries to keep you from one? A few weeks ago sitting at the dinner table my eight-year-old son Coleston looked up and said: “I want to get baptized.”  Then the fear of people watching him set in. He started to waffle and have second doubts. I instantly felt a need to push him forward. After all, making a commitment to become a better person is a win in my book any day. But it’s not my decision. It’s his.  One thing I’ve always tried to do

Ahhhhhh Haaaaaa

Ahhhh haaaaa… Don’t you love ahhhh haaaa moments? It’s a great feeling when you get one. It’s like unraveling a ball of fishing line that your son got twisted up. That’s how the frappuccino came about at Starbucks. An employee wanted something frozen with coffee in it. Then she started combining ice, milk, and coffee to make them. At

Destination Unknown

Life is filled with destinations. Some of those journeys are long and we stick with them. Following the path to see what else comes along. Some of them are short because we get off of them. Problems may arise that we don’t like so we get off. Max Lucado says in the book It’s Not About

FOMO

FOMO Fear Of Missing Out. It’s a crazy thing to have. It works great on my youngest sons. “Come on we have to go,” I say. “No I don’t want to,” they say. “Ok, we’ll just leave you,” I say back and all of the sudden they come running to the car. They don’t want to be left behind. Of course, it’s something we would never do but in their mind, fear is created by not being apart of what we are doing. So they make a decision to come along. Just as I use

It pays to…

Today is the first day off of the 21 days Daniel fast that my wife and I did. If you’re not familiar with a Daniel fast it’s an all-vegetable Biblical fast. Ya, no meats, no coffee, no ice cream and everything else. That’s just craziness. Twenty-One days without all the amenities. That’s just craziness.

Push vs Pull

While working out at home this year I learned a valuable lesson with my family.  I learned several things actually. Read about it here on Facebook. One of the takeaways I had was it’s better to pull than push. We all have our own ways of doing things. But if you want people to truly understand how you do things, you need to lead by example. That’s what I did with my workouts. I started doing them in front of my kids. I wanted to show them what commitment was all about.  Which I can’t do from an office. Do you know what happened? My oldest son Coleston started to work out with me.

It Changed My Life

It Changed My Life… Yesterday I talked about on Facebook how a piece of advice changed my life. “Get out of the business” Steve my old car manager told me 22 years ago. That advice has always stuck with me. It took me 20 years to follow it. It was good advice but something that took me to long to follow. I’d like to share with you some things I see myself coming on the horizon which a lot of people don’t think about. Recently I was reading in Forbes about AI (artificial intelligence) and how it is changing our world. The simple fact is a lot of jobs are going to be eliminated over time. A lot of them in the near future. Here is a list of things that you are already seeing here in Arizona. –Driverless cars –Payment systems (Sams

Broken Model 2

A few weeks ago I talked about broken models. Surprisingly enough in 60 minutes, I watched a piece on the same thing. The focus on recycling and natural resources. Man designs products that don’t’ decompose. They don’t have a return in mind when designed. But everything in our environment does. So one man set out

Missing In Action… I’m Back

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a good New Year.  The last few weeks I’ve had some a lot of time for reflection. I’ve never taken that much time off before. EVER! It was nice. An unexpected journey in 2018 changed everything. I started writing. For the first time in my life, I’ve started to internalize (Not just hear it) that life isn’t just about me. It’s so easy to walk around in life and tell yourself that you don’t live a life that’s all about yourself. But we’re human. Everybody does it. But when you sit down and put your thoughts to pen everything changes. You have to get real with yourself. Things are no longer a pipe dream. Once you
