Does the fuel you burn matter?
Good morning.
It was a really good weekend for me this last week. For the first time in a while, I spent the weekend with my family just relaxing and taking things in Kingman, AZ.
It’s something that I don’t do often enough. As the only source of income in my family, my world is always going a million miles per hour on how I am going to provide. Making it hard to slow down at times.
My boys Coleston, Harrison, Grayson and my daughter Emmalyn love trains so we headed to the historic part of town to check things out. It brought me back into time. As I walked my kids through the historical park, I remembered the days that my parents did the same things.
The nice summer heat beating on my head as I climbed the steps to get up on the train. As you look around that small town feel that you never get from the city. The feeling inside that you are somewhere special that you may not see again.
Seeing my kids do the same things I did was invigorating. It was special. As they climbed around on things, I was able to get the above shot. I posted it to Facebook with a comment that said “Family time… The best fuel ever made!”
Writing that made me think a lot about things and ask myself questions like “Are you burning the right fuel”?
I think that’s a question we should always be asking ourselves. It can be easy at times to get side tracked and do things that don’t bring us to where we really want to go. So at times we need to take a step back and look what we are putting in our tank.
What we fuel up with is what we become. But sometimes you just don’t know if the fuel you are using is the right fuel.
I have found that over time life will drop you simple little clues if you are willing to pay attention to them. A lot of times we want to feel something inside but most often it’s the signs that come from the outside that matter most.
I got one of those signs the other day from a past client Karen. She had bought a house from me a year ago.
At this time every year as a homeowner, you start to get these letters in the mail from other companies that look like bills trying to get you to buy some new warranty on your home or something else.
Not knowing this Karen picked up the phone and called me. We discussed how it was a sly ploy to get her money and then we talked about life and some questions she had for her brother that was buying a home in another state. The conversation lasted for a while but I hung up feeling invigorated.
Why?
Because I get pumped up to talk to my partners. It means that they see me more than just some realtor. I am a friend.
Each partner I work with I try to have an experience that is like that day with my kids. Because even though I try my hardest I just never know if it will be the last one.
