Throw Me A Biscuit
Good morning
In Tuesday’s blog post Are You Being Hacked I talked about people going around stealing money behind your back. Nobody likes being stolen from. If we see someone stealing from us, we go to extreme measures to insure that nothing is taken.
Which leads me to wonder why do so many people just hand their money over to thieves all the time? Is it because they are blind, broken or just down on their luck? Let me explain.
I was at a bar not to long ago having a beer. Yes, I drink a beer at the bar a few times a year when my family is out of town. I happened to go to one that had horse betting in it.
Having been from Denver I hadn’t seen anything like it before. It was crazy, they had this little booth with a man in it (the robber) and people were paying to bet on these horses that were running races in other states.
The first thing that came to my mind was this is absurd.
They didn’t even know one thing about these horses. Nothing! They are just betting their hard earned wages in hopes of riding a high.
But I said to myself “these people are just in the same spot like you were years before”… Beat up and looking for a way out.
This reminded me of a story that I read about the famous horse Seabiscuet that won the triple crown. For those of you that don’t know, Seabisquet was an old beat up race horse that nobody wanted.
Tom Smith the horse’s trainer even said “He’s so beat up, it’s hard to tell what he’s like. I can’t help feeling they got him so screwed up running in a circle that he’s forgotten what he was born to do.He just needs to learn how to be a horse again.”
Later on in training Seabisquet let out in a pen and rediscovers his freedom. From there he went on to win three races in a row to take three of the hardest trophies to win in the world.
I have learned that we are a lot like Seabisquet in life at times… We are beat up, we lose our way, people stop believing in us and we stop believing in ourselves…
Sometimes we just need someone to see us for what we really are.
Tom Smith saw that in Seabisquet saying “Every horse is good for something- you don’t just throw a whole life away because he’s banged up a little.”
Knowing that we are all banged up a little has taught me a lot about how I work with my friends and clients when trying to find them a home.
Not too long ago, I had a client by the name of Pam that I had met at an open house. She had previously worked with another realtor that told her she couldn’t achieve her dream of getting a home. She was broken and discouraged because she needed a home with a pool for her disabled daughter to do therapy in.
I didn’t see an old beat up horse or a person betting at the track, I saw things for what they really could be, a Triple Crown winner. I set her up with my preferred team members Liz and it was about 8 months later we got her into a new home.
Sometimes we put our future in the wrong people’s hands, and we bet on the wrong race.
Maybe that’s because we are lost, don’t have hope or have forgotten what we are born to do. But know this there are people that believe in you, I believe in you, people that see you for what you are and believe that you can be a champion again!
Step up, step out, unshackle you chains and run FREE again my friend.
