Are You Being Hacked?

Good morning.

I hope you had a fabulous Easter and ate a lot of food.  Whether you believe in the resurrection or not one cannot deny that Easter is about good things to come.  It’s one of the few things left in the world that people can look to for good.  The world is full of people looking to to evil or no good to people.  As seen by a recent article I ran across that talked about Atlanta’s entire government computer system that got shut down for 5 days by hackers.

The group that has headed up the attacks has been identified as the SamSam group.  This group of individuals goes after groups or organizations such as hospitals, police departments, and universities.  They target organizations that can’t afford to have their operations down for weeks at a time.  They then demand payment in Bitcoin so things cannot be traced.

Boy what a mess!

This reminds me of  the great movie with Tom Hanks Catch Me If You Can.  If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it.  The movie is about a young man that know how to make counterfeit checks and basically lives high on life writing fake checks.  Eventually he is caught by Tom Hanks character and decides to turn his corrupt ways into helping the FBI catch other thieves that were like himself.  In doing so he found a very lucrative career.

It makes me wonder why the group SamSam wouldn’t do something similar?  If they did things right they could probably make 3 times what they get off of ransoms for helping companies protect themselves from other hackers.  It makes you wonder if it is really about money or something else.   What it really boils down to is what is the right thing to do.  I guess for some people taking the high road is to hard.

I run across people like this all the time in the Real estate industry.  Agents are supposed to represent their clients in a ethical and moral way.

But what goes on behind enemy lines is a whole another thing.

That is why some time ago I joined up with a community of people that have a code of ethnics or beliefs in protecting clients and friends.  In this group we discuss ways that we can better serve our people.  Below is a comment from the listing agent to Rex who had put in a offer on their clients house.

Rex Hunter
Rex Hunter @all going over the trust/authority letters. One has to do with the Million Dollar Listing show and part of it deals with how agents don’t try to get the most for their sellers they just try to get a deal with the other agent. I just had this happen last night. Part of the email from the listing agent: “Hi Rex,
I spoke with the Seller’s and they would like to counter at $255k. I can tell you that their absolute bottom is $250k, so if you can get your Buyers to meet half way at $250k then we definitely have a deal.

Let me know what you think,
“Thanks!

WOW!

This is the type of stuff that goes on behind the scenes.  Just like the SamSam group out there you have realtors that are hacking at your one opportunity to make one of your biggest returns on a investment in your life. You see to a agent doing something like this only cost them $75 in commission.  To the seller and buyer it would cost each $2500.   Rather than take they high road they are cutting your legs from out underneath you and laughing while doing it.  All so they can quickly get paid.

This is why we take so much criticism in our group.  When you expose what other scum bag realtors are doing out there; they tend not to like it.  They feel that we have a obligation to keep the truths of our industry under the rug and act like these things never go on.

It’s thinking like this that allows technologies and apps to come in to replace you.  People get sick of others not treating them right or fairly.  They feel that they don’t get a fair shake and that’s how you get self check out lines.  People don’t want to get helped by someone that doesn’t know how to smile or is always trying to rip them off.  They want a experience that is out of this world and if you aren’t willing to give them that then a computer will replace you.

I don’t believe that we need more machines.  What I do believe is that we need more people that represent people correctly and ethically with a documented approach.  Just like I talked about in my previous article with Cosme and Karla.  This is the one reason why I make it a point to be crystal clear with all my clients all the time and willing to do what is best every time for my clients.

The world is starving for people to do it right and taking the high road isn’t always the easiest but you know when you do good things are sure to come…
