1% Change
A 1% change daily forward or backward in your life can have a large impact. Especially when it comes to gaining or losing weight.
Sneakily it is so easy to put on. An extra bite here. A dessert there. Then all the sudden you are 10, 15, 25 pounds or more overweight.
Marginal gains can be used to our advantage, though. It’s all in how we set things up.
Most people set a goal and go hog wild. Only to fall short. They try to do to much work up front. For example, if it took you a year to put on 15 lbs then take a year to get rid of 15 lbs.
It doesn’t have to be a microwave solution.
Often the best results are attained with a 1% improvement every day. Which over time compounds into something grand.
Dave Braisford used this exact method with the British cycling team. Having only won 1 gold in 70 years the Brits were desperate to win Gold.
Focusing on 1% gains they prepared mentally for everything. 1% better diet. 1% jumps off the starting lines. Even down to where levers were placed on the bike.
He went on to win 7 out of 10 Gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics Repeating that same feat again four years later. Then he went on to win two Tour De France championships.
Not bad for a team that was in shambles.
I’ve been reading a book by Russell Brunson. He experienced a lot of troubles at the beginning of his business as well. At times he felt like he was never going to get things off the ground.
But he kept moving forward. Making adjustments. 1% improvement here. 1% improvement there. Each day pushing things forward.
After 8 years those 1% improvements every day has allowed him to build a software that creates a new millionaire entrepreneur every day.
I’ve been looking for some gains in my business as well. One thing none of have more of is time. It’s something I want more of.
Recently a friend presented an opportunity to me. With the ability to build a real-estate team nationwide. Allowing me to free up more time.
At first, it kind of seemed a little crazy. Something not possible.
But then again technology has changed everything. Plus if you tackle it 1% at a time anything is possible.
The Value Driven Approach could be spread everywhere.
That’s an idea I’d like to share.
