Clash Of The Titans
Good morning,
I recently was reading about some of the worlds largest titans exchange words about how their investment strategies are better than the others.
Most of you probably knows Warren Buffett. But you may not know Elon Musk. Musk is the owner of Tesla the car company. He also created a rocket that launches satellites into space and then relands itself. I talked about Elon previously here.
Their investment strategies are completely different. Warren Buffett invests in things for the long run. He doesn’t change course on anything and lets time take care of the investment.
Where Elon Musk is a disruptor. He likes to create what’s missing in the market. So say like a Red Box to put Blockbuster out of business or a Netflix vs Comcast. His investments are not long term. They are short term and with that have more volatility.
Each way could get you to where you want to go.
But it’s consistency that will win you a championship and Warren has been doing that a lot longer.
It’s one of the biggest reason why we model everything after him. Flat out proven results.
I few months ago doing an open house I met some people that were looking for a home. Geri and Richard. I always talk to people in my open houses, and I could tell from their body language and some of the responses that they gave me that they were really frustrated with the home buying process.
Which happens often. Why? Because I could tell they didn’t have crystal clarity of the strategy that they were using with their realtor. They were confused and didn’t have answers to their questions. Which unfortunately happens often in this business.
I helped where I could and said if they were not happy with the person they were using, then they could call me and we would talk to see if partnering up with me might be a good fit.
I just want to make a not here. I never try to take a deal from any other agent. But if a person is not being served properly it is my duty to offer a service that produces superior results.
Geri and Richard left, and I left it at that. About a month later I got a call from them. They still had not found a house and wanted to talk to me.
We met up at a first home and talked about things. At the end of the conversation and explaining some things I pulled out the form for them to sign for me to represent them as their partner/realtor.
I remember Richard looking at me crossed eyed and saying “why do I need to sign that?” My simple reply was that “I have an expectation mindset to serve you and get a job done. I use a documented approach and the people before you didn’t. That’s why you weren’t getting the outcome you have wanted.”
He signed the form after Geri agreed and we began the search. Now I gotta tell you that with today’s market we had some ups and downs. We missed out on a few houses, and Richard was getting discouraged.
But I explained that consistency wins championships and we need to stay the course. I’ve done this way too many times to know that if you are patient just like Warren Buffett that you’ll come out with a win.
And we did… We found a house that we first thought was overpriced. They wanted to buy it, but I recommended that we let it sit for a bit. Later we came back to it and made an offer. The offer was accepted, and we got some new carpet installed that we didn’t even know was being put in.
In the end everything has really worked out.
But you see if we had just went running around with our head cut off. No plan in place. We would have never gotten this result. Yes, we swung out at times, but it was sticking to the plan that mattered. Following the proven documented approach to get where you want to go.
It’s not some secret pill. It’s the Value Driven Approach I always use with my partners.
It’s the consistency that wins championships.
Congratulations Geri and Richard. You deserve it!
