Destinations…
One thing about destinations is that when you get to them they end. The process and all the work that it takes to get there is over.
At times that can be exhilarating. But then what comes after? For some that is a void.
I heard Deion Sanders once say after he had won the Super Bowl “That’s it.” His whole life he had been driving to meet this one goal and once he finally got there he felt empty.
All that work to get there and he had no plan for anything after. Everything in his life hung on that one goal.
That’s why it’s important to make sure how you look at destinations.
It’s been a year and four months since I decided to start writing weekly to you my partners.
I will admit it was a painful process in the beginning. Every fear comes into your mind.
Who are you to be writing? Will anyone care? Your grammar is terrible you better stop.
Not to mention I have to think of things to write about. Things that I hope will help others in their daily lives as well.
One thing about it though is that writing never has a destination. It’s like a river that turns around every bend swishing back and forth.
Bringing forth new ideas for me to write about every day. Which opens doors for me because it forces me to look at life from a different angle.
One that isn’t driven by the media or any other propaganda.
Recently I’ve started another phase of my business. I’ve started to look for partners to join my team.
In doing so I talk a lot to other agents about how they are going about getting business. One thing that is always crystal clear is that they are always taught you have to sell people.
For them, everything is a destination to sell a home. After that destination is just another empty void.
I can truthfully say I don’t feel that way with you, my partners. I’ll be the first to admit I don’t connect with everyone the same way.
Just like with my kids each relationship is different.
As partners, we’ve reached our destination together but for most of us, we didn’t stop. We continued on the trip.
You’ve dropped by at Christmas, we’ve broken bread together and you’ve referred your friends.
Every once in a while you even drop in at my open houses.
It’s great and I enjoy it.
It’s easy to get caught up in today’s mantra of setting lofty goals and becoming a big success.
What good is it, though, it leaves you empty and wondering where is all the rest?
Life is not about destinations it’s about having checkpoints that make sure the journey goes on.
Have a great week.
