Digging Into The Past

One of my favorite things to do is go to the thrift store and look for books. For me, it’s like finding lost treasure from the past.

The tricky part sometimes is not judging a book by its cover. You never know what lies inside.

Which is the case of the book I’m reading now. The cover and the title would never lead me to think that this was a self-help book with Biblical application.

As you can tell it’s definitely not from this era either.

One thing about time is the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Every day writers, authors and gurus are putting a spin on everything to make things sound better.

You see it all the time, seven-minute abs, the Keto diet, and the Four Hour Workweek. Everybody has a spin on things.

Deep down though, these are things that have been written about probably thousands of times before. Well before they were the new fad.

Somebody just figured out how to put a new label on it with a better cover. Shifting the principle into people’s view.

Like the principle of mapping your day out before you go to bed. That was covered in this book.

It’s not a new idea but people are still selling this method in self-help books as one of their pillars to become successful.

Over the years I’ve chased my fair share of new shiny objects to see how to become successful.

The one thing I’ve found that they all have in common is you must be consistent with whatever you are doing.

Yes, the tools can get better, the strategies deeper but none of that matters if you don’t stay consistent with what you are doing.

The old adage “consistency wins championships” applies here. Tom Brady is a testament to that.

He has never had a superstar running back. Only once he has had a Hall of Fame receiver and yet the guy is unstoppable at his craft.

In real estate, they are always trying to sell agents new tools to stay in front of partners. Which can be good at times.

I think the answer is for most of us though isn’t something new. It’s learning to master our current craft with our current tools.

What’s the one thing you still need to master?
