If you have followed me at all on Facebook you might of saw that I’m read a book by Steven Pressfield called Do The Work. Steven says “resistance will reason with you like a lawyer or jam a nine-millimeter in your face like a stick-up man”. RESISTANCE is one of the biggest things that affects our lives.

So as I often do.  I had to ask myself….

Am I being held up by this “Stickup Man Of Resistance?

It was a quick and easy answer. Ohhh I had the usual suspects that a lot of us probably have.  Waking up in the morning, working out, doing dishes and ahhh well you get the point.

Those are all the easy things to identify.  I’ve discovered that to get more out of life you have to dig a little bit deeper.  So that’s what I did.  That’s when the pistol hit me upside the head.  OUCH!

I had never truly realized until now how this “Stickup Man Of Resistance” was keeping me from building my kids dreams.

It was pulling me down at the end of a long day when my family needs most.  Feeding me lies like “ohhh you’re to tired why don’t you just watch some TV” or “tell them you’ll do it in a bit and hope they forget” or “ how about we’ll do it tomorrow”.  Man what a mess.

He was robbed me of all the things matter most and that’s my family life.

As with most lessons in life when you get smacked around you learn how to recognize things. That day I got a mugshot of exactly what the “Stickup Man Of Resistance” looks like and how to protect myself and family from it.

I just recently had another siting of the “Stickup Man Of Resistance” lately.

I had some clients Harvey and Ms Betty that was looking for a home.  This was going to be their last home and they were on a strict budget.  They were also in a super competitive price range where homes were selling the same day they hit the market.

We got outbid on a few homes and my clients started to get frustrated and put in a offer on a house that was a bit of a reach because they were getting in a hurry.

The sellers countered our offer and didn’t want to budge much.  Now it would of been easy to listen to the “Stickup Man Of  Resistance”.  To take the easy path and tell my clients to step up and take it so I could get paid like a robber and thief.

But I knew it was a bad deal for my client… 

So I advised Harvey to walk from the deal and the next day we found the same house that just hit the market fully furnished and fully updated (unlike the other house that was all original)  for the same price.

It was a honor to be able to recognize this thief and put Harvey and Ms Betty into a better position.  I take pride in learning how to better serve my clients and be on the lookout for the “Stick Up Man Of Resistance.

So next time you come up against something in your life where you are feeling some RESISTANCE. Take a step back and see it for what it really is.  Just the “Stick Up Man Of Resistance” trying to steal the dreams in your life.
