Its More Than A Game

It was a weekend filled with excitement. Grandma did a surprise visit, the easter bunny egged our yard and Christ has risen.

This was all followed up by an intense three hour game of Horse Monopoly.

That’s Emmalyn on the right and Harrison on the left. Mom was taking the picture.

For most of us, Monopoly is just a game. That’s how I remember it.

That’s what it can be if that’s all you want it to be. It can also be used as a great tool.

A lot of things in life are this way. We look at them one way but if we take the time to think about it a minute they can be used for much more.

Say for instance a newspaper. Most people will read it but it can also be used to clean a window as well.

We did the same with Monopoly. We could play it as a game or use it for its full potential as a learning lesson.

Which we did. But not without some modifications.

When Harrison would roll, Emmalyn would blurt out the number. We fixed this by making her spell the number so Harrison could count.

Then we made them count their money when they had to collect and pay rent. Negotiating and trading properties was even a part of the whole deal.

The whole game turned into an amazing learning experience of counting and strategy.

It was a tight game and Emmalyn won in the end. Something she has a knack for.

Helping my kids with that experience made me realize it’s not much different from my partners that buy homes.

Some want to simply enjoy the experience while others are looking for an investment.

The important thing is you want to make sure you have someone that knows how to play with all the rules.

After all, it’s your choice on how you want to play the game.

Have a great week.
