Poop Lessons
Good morning.
“Can I pick up the dog poop today?”
This was the question that I heard outside my door from my office the other day. One of the great perks I get from working at home. Of course it made me laugh.
It’s not something you hear every day from a young child. Especially not one you would normally hear from your daughter. But obviously my daughter Emmalyn had a motive behind it.
Well come to find out it was entrepreneur day at the park. Kids were going to be there selling goods and she wanted to earn some money to buy things. Our kids know that we just don’t hand over money for them to buy things. They have to do something in exchange to get a wage.
This is one of the key fundamentals when it comes to being an entrepreneur.
You have to be willing to do what most others won’t in order to achieve that goal. For my daughter that was a willingness to even pick up some POOP so she could not only get what she wanted but also help others get what they want.
Pick up poop = my clean yard = money for my daughter = toys = helps others put food on their table or probably help some kid buy more toys.
The great Zig Ziglar once said, “If you help everyone in the world get what they want, you, in turn, will get what you want.”.
Everybody wins…
We’ve adopted this doctrine with the value driven approach but it’s not always that easy to deliver. A lot of times we find ourselves going way outside our lines in order to get things done.
Just this Tuesday we finalized the deal with Cosme and Carla that we partnered on. I have talked some about this in the past. This deal had several moving parts to it. They had a house in California that needed to sell before they could buy here in Arizona.
From the beginning of this deal we had many hurdles to jump.
On the first day I met them we found out they weren’t getting great financing. So we got them with Liz Korn my preferred lender and she got them into a Free down payment grant program to buy their home here in Arizona.
First hurdle jumped…
Then we ran into inspections problems on their California house. Neither one of the agents was getting the work done. I found myself calling their agent and the buyers agent on the deal to get the work done. Now take in mind this is totally out of the norm.
Second hurdle down…
Now we moved on to the financing of the buyers. This didn’t happen on time either. We extended closing 3 times and once again I found myself calling the lender to get things done.
Third hurdle down…
Finally, we got documents to the title company, and they didn’t want to do the paperwork right away. The lady was rude but after talking to her some she got the signing done a day early.
Fourth hurdle down…
The transaction was a nightmare on the other end.
All this happened because people on the other side weren’t ever communicating. They didn’t have a process to do things properly. Their approach was to just fly by the seat of their pants and hope everyone did their job.
From the beginning it was obvious on both sides that the team that they had put together to help and serve their clients was not up to par. An agent from another state should never have to get involved in a transaction to get a deal done.
On the other hand we followed the documented approach on our side of the deal. We didn’t have one hiccup in the whole deal. Everything went as planned, and we closed on time just like we always do. Because we have a superior approach to things when we put things in motion.
The team we put together to work with is rock solid. I know every time that when I work with them they will not let me down. They don’t make excuses they just get it done. Our partners don’t see a lot of what goes on behind the scenes most often and that’s ok.
Just know that we will always be there even when we have to pick up a little poop!
