What can 3 pennies do?
Good morning.
As you all know I work from home a lot. You also know that I have four kids in my house that we homeschool. Well ok my wife does that!
But it does make the days interesting though at times. Let’s just say I have an ability to block out chaos while I am working to get things done. Now that doesn’t work when one of them comes knocking on my door just to bug me.
But it’s not always that way. Every once in a while you get one of those special moments that makes working from home very special.
I was sitting in my office chair like normal when I oldest son Coleston came up to me. I can always tell when he wants something because they way he acts. Sometimes it takes him a bit to spit things out.
That’s when he raised up his hand and had 3 pennies. He looked at me with those seven year old eyes and said “Dad these are for you. You work real hard for us. You deserve them.”
I was floored and taken aback. It was the greatest compliment that I ever got. You see, I’m not the type of person that takes compliments well. I just look at life as that’s the way you should be doing things. So it’s hard for me to take things in when I do them right.
As Memorial day approaches us this weekend, I am reminded of the people that did what was right to protect our FREEDOM. They stood tall, they made a stance and they sacrificed everything for us.
Some were never asked to go. They just went…
They just did what was right, and they got us a win!!
Abby Wambach said, “Whenever you get to win, you feel the satisfaction of all of your hard work, all the sacrifices, all the blood, sweat and tears. It feels right and makes you realise that you are really doing the right thing.”
Sometimes in life you just don’t know if you got a win or you wonder if people still remember what you did for them. That’s why days like Memorial day or my son coming up and telling me he notices my hard work, means so much.
Actions speak louder than words…
When I first came out with the book on the Value Driven Approach, I was kinda worried at first what people would think. I knew speaking out against unethical things was the right thing to do but when you start something you just never know.
But thanks to all my partners your actions of working with me have confirmed things for some time.
The words “Dad these are for you. You work real hard for us. You deserve them” rings true.
To that I say thank you.
